7 Ways to Use Wind Up the Apple Tree in Your Lesson
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]I love finding new songs for my scholars. I’m sure most of us have heard of “Apple Tree”, but have you heard of “Wind Up the Apple Tree”? I was browsing through youtube and somehow found my way to this cute video. I’ll post it below. It’s a great song for the fall and you can use it in so many ways. Today I’m going to share with you 5 ways you can incorporate “Wind Up the Apple Tree” in your music class. I also have 2 bonus ways to use it in your ELA or Science class. Remember, I love bringing music into all classes!
Strong and Weak Beat
This song is in a meter of 2 so you can definitely add it to your list of songs when you’re teaching strong & weak beats or meter.
Steady Beat
What song isn’t great for teaching steady beat?! Have your scholars pat on the steady beat. You can even get an apple (fake of course!) and have them pass it on the beat. I have a created a beat chart for you. You can find it here.
Teach/Reinforce Half Note
I introduce my scholars to the half note in the 2nd grade and this is going to be another perfect song to have them aurally identify the half note. I have a created some rhythmic dictation worksheets for you. You can find it here.
Quarter Note/Eight Note Pair
Since this song has a half note in it I wouldn’t use it to teach quarter notes and eighth note pairs; however, it’s a good song to reinforce notes that scholars should already know. If you are dying to teach this right away, consider changing the half notes to quarter notes (with a rest on beat 2!)
Sol-Mi-La
Looking for another song to help you introduce ‘la’? This is that song.
Johnny Appleseed
Johnny Appleseed is a classic story for your elementary class. If you are a music teacher looking to bring more literacy into your class consider reading Johnny Appleseed before or after teaching this song. If you are an ELA teacher spice up your Johnny Appleseed unit with some singing!
Apple Tree Lifecycle
What happens to an apple tree in all the different seasons? If you are planning a unit on the Apple Tree Lifecycle consider incorporating this song into your science unit. Singing a song about an apple tree will definitely make the unit more memorable for your scholars.
